Job Offer Dilemma: Should I Accept a Role Without an Immediate Appointment Letter?

Respected Seniors,

I am an MBA-HR Fresher and have been offered a job in a leading consultancy in Delhi as a Management Trainee (Recruitment). However, the issue is that they are stating that the offer letter/appointment letter will be provided to me after 6 months of joining.

I am very confused about this. What should I do? Please help me out.

Hi Puja,

Usually, when you join a company, an offer letter or appointment letter is provided to you on the day you are asked to join. Yes, the company can give you a confirmation letter after 6 months. So, I think you need to talk to them and take a joining letter from them.

Hi,

An offer letter will be given before joining a company, and an appointment letter will be provided on the first day of employment. Therefore, it is advisable to confirm this with the consultancy.

Hi! This might be a very good consultancy in Delhi, but most of them are very bad when the time for payment comes. In my opinion, you can join if they are saying they would give you an offer letter after 6 months, but make sure you get your monthly salary. At least you will be able to learn about Recruitment. Even if they don't give you an appointment letter, you'll have the knowledge and you would be able to crack the interview with a good company easily. Just be conscious with your payments while working in consultancies.

I'm not in agreement with your opinion, as we always work to gain experience and skills. However, only experience and skills cannot help you in getting a new job, as every good company surely asks for an appointment letter copy at the time of joining. If they do not provide an appointment letter, it means I have no proof of my employment, and you can't include it on your resume as work experience. Other companies will consider you as a fresher.

In the meantime, you will gain experience and knowledge which are crucial in recruitment. What matters most is your learning, not just the appointment letter. Companies understand that many consultancies may not issue offer/appointment letters. In fact, many good companies conduct reference checks to verify your employment with the consultancy in question.

I hope I can understand your problem. Initially, they will provide you with an Offer Letter. Once you join the company, they will give you an Appointment Letter. The Offer Letter is for accepting the job with the specified package and other terms. After you agree to the terms and conditions and start working at the company, they will provide you with the Appointment Letter. Sometimes, there is a Consultant Period for evaluating your performance among other things.

I do agree that we should get the appointment letter on the day of joining, but in most of the consultancies, this is what they do... that's the reason I said to be sure of the payments. You might be treated as a fresher on papers, but the HR would know that you have working knowledge, and it will be easier to crack the interview.

As many have expressed their different views about your offer, I have a similar problem like you, but not for months together. It's a matter of 20 days. I have been following up with them regarding my offer and appointment letter, while also working hard to meet their requirements. I just wanted to advise you to keep track of your correspondence with middle-level management, meaning your superiors.
