Dear Karthik ,

While negotiating a job, Please keep the following in mind:

1.Takehome - Its not always about the salary , but your take-home .Please make sure you have clear view of what you would be able to take home every month. Numbers that look big on appointment letter might not be the same on payslip.

2.Benefits - It includes the health Insurance and several other fringes, such as Housing, travel, education and other membership. Please do weigh properly what do you need and how much would you use. Hence go for the job that covers the benefits as per your needs.

3.Role - The role given to you should be the one that can take you to your next level. Often the role marketed at the time of interview is very different from what you would finally work. Hence ask questions, such as how would a day in the job be. Be absolutely demystified. Recruiters tend to glorify certain areas of work. Please ponder no false hope.

4.Brand - The brand that you work for will bring you credibility. Hence weigh which brand is valued more in your vertical

Finally, do share with the recruiters that you would want to stay motivated in your role. You would offer them the value for the amount you are intending. Show them how you are this worth in your existing role. Speak with a view on future, sharing how you intend to grow in your role with added responsibility and certifications/ education . You have to project the CTC as an investment on you .You have to pose yourself as a prospective talent, only then you would be able to negotiate your cost to the company.
