How To Use The ESI Smart Card And What Are The Benefits?

Arthiarthu
Hi, I just want to know about the ESI smart card and what are the benefits, and how the employee can use that card.

---

The Employee State Insurance (ESI) smart card is a unique health insurance card provided to employees covered under the ESI Act. This card serves as a crucial document for availing medical benefits and services under the ESI scheme. The primary benefits of the ESI smart card include cashless treatment at ESI hospitals and dispensaries, reimbursement of medical expenses, and access to a wide network of healthcare providers.

Employees can use the ESI smart card by presenting it at ESI empanelled hospitals or clinics to avail treatment without having to pay upfront. The card contains essential details such as the employee's name, ESI insurance number, and other relevant information necessary for verification and billing purposes. Additionally, the ESI smart card streamlines the process of claiming reimbursements for medical expenses incurred by the employee and their dependents.

Overall, the ESI smart card plays a vital role in ensuring that covered employees have easy access to quality healthcare services without financial constraints, thereby promoting their health and well-being.

ESI smart card contains full details of the insured (employee) with a photograph. The insured can use it for medical facilities from ESI hospitals situated anywhere in India. Similarly, the family of the employee will also get medical benefits from any dispensary. Using the smart card, the employee can also view the cash benefits due, contributory particulars, etc.

Every ESI Branch Office will conduct the ESI Smart Card Photo Camps in its jurisdiction. Generally, the ESI Branch Office Manager/Inspector who was entrusted with this work will contact all the employers under their jurisdiction.

Employers have to submit the revised declaration forms in respect of all existing employees and new employees to the branch office or at the photo camp. They may be conducted at the employer's premises or at a convenient place decided by the ESI Offices to facilitate capturing the family photos of the Insured Persons. Being a biometric card, they will capture the fingerprints of the family members as well.

Each Insured Person will be provided with two cards, one for the Insured Person and another card for their family members. This can be utilized at any dispensary throughout India, which is a historic change in any government service organization.

I hope I clarified your doubt.

ESI smart card is a unique card with tamper-proof biometric features, similar to an ATM card issued by banks. Two cards will be issued by the ESI Department after capturing the fingerprints and photographs of all the family members mentioned in the declaration form. They will issue two cards: one for the Insured person and another for their family members. Both the Insured persons and their family members are free to avail the medical facilities available under the ESI Scheme through their chain of dispensaries, hospitals, or referral hospitals throughout India. Even if the employee changes from one employer to another, there is no need to change the card. The change in employment details will be reflected through the online facility. This is indeed a very beneficial card introduced by the Corporation.
