Facing Legal Threats for Skipping Notice Period: How Can I Resolve This?

I was working with a software firm in Chennai. I worked there for only 50 days. At the time of joining, I signed a service agreement that stated serving a 1-month notice before leaving the company. I was frustrated with the work and the company's facilities to the extent that I quit without serving the notice period. I also had various family issues during that time.

Now, the company is asking me to return and serve the notice period, threatening legal action if I do not comply. I am willing to pay them 1 month's salary as the notice period, as per industry practice.

What should I do to avoid legal problems?

Please send them a RPAD letter (not email) explaining all the problems faced by you, offering to send the one-month salary payment in lieu of notice by way of DD, and seek their confirmation. If they agree, then send the DD by RPAD. This may close the issue.

In my case, it's a little different. I am from Hyderabad, the company is in Pune, and I worked in Chennai on an on-site project. I have served 7 months (6 months probation period) in the company. I am under a 2-year bond (Rs. 100/- stamp paper) and a 2 lakh breakage amount, with a 1-month notice period in writing. I didn't give any resignation letter/email in writing, but I verbally informed my management 1.5 months before I left the company. The reason for leaving is my father's critical health condition, which I communicated to them, but they did not agree. Now, they have sent a lawyer (RPAD) to me, stating that I have to re-join within 7 days or pay 2.5 lakhs. I don't want to re-join, and I am unable to pay that much. Is that bond legally valid? If yes, what actions can they take as I am only able to pay a small amount? I hope you will provide the best solution. Thank you in advance.
