Hi,
Medical reimbursement may or may not be compulsory depending on national and company policies.
Where the nation or state has a policy for medical treatment for the people (such as health insurance schemes), then the company can willingly choose to additionally provide for the medical facility for its workers. In such cases, the company has to abide by the specific provisions of its medical policy, ensuring that all conditions for the enjoyment of the company's medical facility are satisfied by the employee. Otherwise, the employees will have to benefit from the national or state medical facilities only, and the company should encourage its employees to register to enjoy the national or state medical facilities.
If there are no medical facilities in the company, then the company is not obliged to honor medical reimbursements.
Sometimes situations arise where medical reimbursement goes beyond company medical facilities, such as in cases of workmen's compensation, where the employee claims medical reimbursement due to suffering from occupational hazards. In such instances, it is advisable to refer to the workmen's compensation law or other relevant statutory provisions for these types of benefits.
Hope this helps.
