Respected seniors,

Have you heard about any notification stating that the ESI Act will be applicable to apprentices engaged under the Apprentices Act, 1961?

With regards,

No, but as per a new amendment, apprentices engaged as per Standing Orders will also be covered by ESI.

Apprenticeship Engagement and ESIC Coverage

Generally, establishments engage two sets of apprentices:
1st - As per the standing order or the establishment's own recruitment policy.
2nd - Under the Apprentices Act, 1961, for which a quota of apprentices has been fixed by the authority. The 1st set is covered under the ESIC Act. However, the 2nd set is not covered under the ESIC, and to cover their risk, it is preferable to obtain an EC policy against them.
