Dear Friend,

Please share if the offices are working in Bengaluru, Bombay, Chennai, and Delhi. Saturday, we are not working. If required, we have to issue the circular today itself.

Dear Devdatta,

In case of a Bandh declaration, the office never closes, but employees are not able to come to the office. So, it appears closed. We always mark CL in the attendance. Whoever is able to come will be marked as present.

Thanks,

Hi,

It all depends upon the state government policy. In Karnataka, for example, the BJP government will support, whereas in Tamil Nadu, the DMK government will not support. Hence, it all depends upon the tone of the government.

Hi,

I am from Kerala, and our office will remain closed not because we are supporting the bandh, but due to fear for our lives and property.

Yes, I too have the same question. I think it may not be required because we are in Coimbatore. Our company was on leave from the 23rd to the 27th due to the Tamil conference held here.

Dear All,

Bharat Bandh on July 5 called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against price rise and announced for a 24-hour nationwide shutdown (Bharat Bandh). "In order to protest against this unjustified hike in petroleum prices and the total ineptitude of UPA Government to address this problem, BJP President Nitin Gadkari has given a call for a Bharat Bandh on 5th July."

Meanwhile, a 12-hour nationwide 'hartal' (general strike) on the same day (July 5) has been called by the Left and other Opposition parties against the recent fuel price hike.

The four Left parties - Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), and Forward Bloc - have given the call for the strike.

Besides, the AIADMK, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Samajwadi Party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Janata Dal (Socialist), and INLD have also supported the strike call.

Note: In view of the above, the common life of people will be disturbed, and it is not safe for the state for the employees to come out of their homes and risk themselves; therefore, it is necessary to keep the company closed on July 5, 2010.

No office declares a holiday in this kind of scenario. It depends on the individual employee. If you can come, you are in the office; otherwise, it counts as a Casual Leave (provided you have available CL in your account) or else it counts as LWP. The office is always open. The same policy applies to All India, including Kolkata.

Dear Friends,

You have to decide for yourselves whether the call for the Bandh will impact attendance in your office. If you feel that attendance will be poor because of the Bandh, you could close your office for the day and work on some other holiday/weekly off day. The decision is entirely yours. There is no law to it.

Best Wishes, Vasant Nair Director Karma-HR

My office is in Noida. Since we have 24/7 operations, employees are required to come except females who have been instructed not to come to the office on Monday.

All 'Bandhs' are a loss to the common man and the nation. Therefore, always try to continue work on that day. However, it depends upon the situation. If your job is urgent, if at least 50% of your workers/staff are staying nearby to your organization, and if you have the ability to successfully oppose 'bandh' activists, then do not hesitate to keep the organization working. If necessary, inform the nearby police station for any help. - Arun Deshpande

We work on 5th July. Our management has not declared a holiday as it may send the wrong message regarding support or no support for the strike. We will try to go to work. If there is any disturbance, we will not go to work.

We will work on all days 24 x 7 because it is a super specialty hospital located in Chennai. Local newspapers have already reported that all transport will run as usual, and nobody will be spared if they try to threaten the shopkeepers to close.

My office is in Hazira, Surat, and hence we do not have any holiday. Our office in Mumbai is closed on 5/07/2010.

Our office is currently operational. However, there seems to be a lack of communication regarding the appropriate course of action in case of any issues in reaching the office. Several prominent IT companies have closed their offices.

No, I'm in my office. It isn't closed. We shouldn't protest by closing our offices. This isn't fair.

Our office always opens during all types of bandhs. At least, I always come in bandhs. My office is BPMU, Missamora BPHC, NRHM, Golaghat, Assam.
