Company Devices During Probation: Do You Pay a Security Deposit?

Hi,

My company is providing laptops and BlackBerry phones to all RM level and above employees. Do companies retain some security amount for people during the probation period or even beyond it? For cases where employees leave the job and don't return these! Comments and suggestions are invited.

It is not a common practice to retain a security amount, but HR needs to include these two items in the New Staff Orientation Checklist and Exit Clearance Checklist. Both forms need to be countersigned by both HR and the employee.

If any employee did not return the items, you can deduct the amount from their Full and Final (F&F) settlement.
