Office-Based Telecom Safety: Do We Need an Accident Register with ESI Compliance?

ManishaDogra
Hi all,

I oversee Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) in a telecom (service provider) where all our work is "office-based." Do I still need to comply with ESI regulations and maintain an Accident Register in all of our offices? All the employees are covered under mediclaim.

Any help would be appreciated.

None of the employees earn less than Rs. 10,000 per month. We are not a "manufacturing unit"; we provide mediclaim to all our employees. Hence, I am wondering if an "accident register" should be maintained at the office as that is really a statutory requirement under the ESI Act. The "Shops and Establishments Act" does not specify the need to have such a register.

You have said none of the employees earn less than Rs 10,000/- per month. You are not a "manufacturing unit"; you provide mediclaim to all your employees, but the ESIC limit has been increased to 15,000 effective from 1st May 2010. I hope now you have to be covered under ESIC.
