I was the General Secretary of an MNC in Kolkata. I worked in this MNC as a permanent employee. I was sincerely advocating for some casual workers who had been with the company for over 10 years on average. These casual workers were performing permanent job roles, yet the company was not hiring employees to replace those retiring from permanent positions. The company failed to provide PF/ESI benefits to workers in casual/contractual roles. These casual workers took their case to the High Court to secure their PF benefits. While the casual workers did receive their PF benefits, the company terminated those who, along with me, pursued legal action. The dispute for these casual workers is pending at the Labor Department of the state. During negotiations, the company terminated me for supporting these casual workers, despite lacking service rules that would justify my termination. Since then, I have been struggling to combat their intimidation as my colleagues abandoned me to align with management, effectively dismantling union activities.
