Understanding the 17-Digit ESIC Code

The first 2 digits tell about the region (state) where your unit, for which you are applying the code number or sub-code number, is located.
The next 2 digits indicate where the head office of your unit is situated.
The following 6 digits represent your unit's unique ESI code number.
The next 3 digits specify the number of branches that your unit has within that region/state.
The final 4 digits describe the type of your industry.

You can approach the concerned ESI Regional Office for the password. I hope that the Regional Offices will dispatch the passwords via speed post. Please confirm the same with your ESI Regional Office over the phone.
