How Do You Effectively Judge a Candidate During the HR Interview Round?

Kindly suggest the things one should keep in mind while taking the HR round of the interview. I have searched the important HR questions from Google, but I think that is not enough. What are the ways that can help us to judge a candidate? Kindly suggest.

Things to be observed in a person during an HR round are:

1. Attitude
2. Eagerness to learn
3. Discipline
4. Some leadership qualities
5. Flexibility

Dear Kshama,
Apart from the basic things like skill sets, experience, salary band …These parameters would differ from profile to profile. However from an HR stand point you need to consider few factors such as communication, attitude, stability, adaptability, open towards learning and so on.
Lot of attributes would depend on the position such as leadership quality, man management skills, attitude towards subordinates and many others.

Can you share instances where you had to make decisions independently in a leadership role? How did you justify those decisions?

How skilled are you as a decision-maker?

How do you believe you can excel in this role?

What challenges do you think you can handle better than others due to your personal strengths?

You can add the following questions to conduct the HR Interview:

1. How good is he/she in leadership quality? You can also ask them to rate themselves on a scale.
2. If it is for a supervisory post, you can ask how he or she would motivate his or her subordinates.
3. As an HR professional, you should also inquire about product knowledge which would help in evaluating the candidate.

* How would you enrich their jobs?
* What is more important according to you, men or productivity?

Well, I don't mind! Based on my industrial experience, I would like to tell you that these are quite relative questions. One has to find out his/her own replies for that.

How would you motivate your team members? If it's put to me, I would say that I would first gel in with the teammates and try to bring out the best in each person, required for achieving the team goal. I would appreciate and encourage performance and would definitely consider 'Marginal Performers' too.

How would you enrich their jobs? It depends on the job I am talking about. But for a performer and capable person, you may give them some duties with more responsibility and accountability.

What is more important according to you, men or productivity? According to me, productivity is important, though I am from an HR background. You run the business for profits, and an unproductive workforce will not lead to good results.
