Dear Friend,
The Minimum Wages Act 1948 ensures the fixing of minimum wages in certain employments. The Act has been amended by the following states for local application: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Practical application:
1. You can collect the Minimum Wages Notification from the concerned Labour Department of the State.
2. If your appropriate Government is the Central Government, you can collect it from the Regional Labour Commissioner (C) / ALC (C) / LEO (C).
3. In compliance with the provisions under the Contract Labour Act, you have to notify the same with intimation to the Labor Authority.
4. Compare the rates of both Central and State Notifications and ensure payment to workers based on the higher rate.
