Hi Shreya,
You can apply for a PAN card without any problem by using Form 49A. It can be downloaded from the Tax Information Network (
www.tin-nsdl.com). If you know the procedure for applying online, you can also use this facility.
You need to attach an Address and ID Proof. For ID Proof, your S.S.C certificate copy is enough. For Address proof, a copy of any one of the following can be attached along with the Form:
1) Bank Pass Book
2) Ration Card
3) Passport
4) Driving Licence
5) Voter ID Card
6) A letter from a Gazetted Officer, etc.
You have to affix one colored photograph on the application, and the Form should be filled with Black Ink only.
After filling the Form, you can submit the same at any TIN facilitation center like Karvy, Bajaj Capital, etc.
For your information, these days there is a lot of significance regarding the PAN Card as follows:
1) Applying for a loan, either Housing or Vehicle, through any financial institute
2) Filing Income Tax Returns
3) For ID Proof
4) For buying any items worth more than Rs. 50,000/-
5) For depositing cash exceeding Rs. 50,000/- in any banks
6) For fixed deposits or term deposits in banks as well as Post offices, we need to furnish a PAN Card copy.
Apart from the above, there are many uses for a PAN Card.

Sravan
