I agree with you, but sometimes interviewers also give their example that they work up to 10 pm for 3-4 days a week. What should be the right reply? Kindly advise.
Please tell them that I have a family, and it is important for me to see them at the end of the day. It adds richness to my life and makes me feel energized the next day when I come to work. However, I can handle a heavy workload at home where I will be under the same roof as my family.
Please convey to them, "At times, if it's required, I can work late, but I prefer to complete the work within office hours. However, even if the workload is heavy."
As an HR professional, I personally feel that discussing family matters in interviews can often lead to feelings of homesickness. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid providing vague or weak answers in such situations.
You should simply say what suits you. If you are comfortable sitting late, which many people are habitual now, you say yes. If not, then tell them you can do this once in a while if the workload is heavy but not regularly. Make it clear; certain jobs require late sittings and certain don't. Find out what the exact reason is.
Tell the interviewer that you can work overtime if it's required. This answer will show that at the time of need in the company, you can be relied upon.
I believe that the best answer would be, "Sir, once given a task and a deadline, it is my responsibility to manage my time effectively. I will strive to complete the work during office hours; however, if necessary, I am willing to work beyond office hours to meet the deadline." I think this response should satisfy the interviewer.
I hope the company will give a reasonable amount of time to complete the work assignment. In that case, you are sure to finish the work on time, and there will be no need to stay late. However, if necessary, you should not hesitate to work late.
