Hi, Well, these are relative terms in HR parlance. However, to be precise, training is one of the processes to achieve development. The clinical meaning would be:

a) Training is a tool/process to achieve development.
b) Development is a change in the levels of any or all of the human parameters in an organization; like it could be a) Change in the competency level, b) Change in culture, c) Change in performance levels.

Hence, training is a tool/process, and development is a desired result.

Hi,

Training for current job requirements or specific work areas is essential for enhancing current job performance. Development for future job requirements or additional job knowledge is crucial for career growth and advancement.

Thank you.

Hi,

Well, I would like to say, in simple terms, "Training is the correction of mistakes, and development is improving your energy level for the next step in your future."

Dear Vanijayendran,

Training is the practice of applying what one has learned to improve skills and gain further knowledge in its application. Human resources development in an organizational context is a process by which employees of an organization are assisted in a continuous, planned manner to:

- Acquire and sharpen the capabilities required to perform their present or expected future roles,
- Develop their general capabilities as individuals and discover and exploit their inner potential for their own and/or organizational development purposes; and
- Develop an organizational culture in which supervisor-subordinate relationships, teamwork, and collaboration among sub-units are strong and contribute to the professional well-being, motivation, and pride of employees.

Training is a short-term process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which non-managerial personnel learn technical knowledge and skills for a definite purpose.

Development is a long-term educational process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which managerial personnel learn conceptual and theoretical knowledge for a general purpose.

I wonder why bloggers take the easy route of posting queries instead of searching the web, where detailed explanations are easily available. For example, see "Training & Development: A Part Of HRM Studies" found through a Google search. Have a nice day.

Vani,

Training is to make one competent to perform a job as required. Development is to help one master the skills learned through training and become a multitasking individual. I have learned the meanings of these two words.
