Transitioning from Marketing to HR: Will My MBA Make Me a Fresher Again?

frnz4swapna
Hi all,

I am an MBA 2009 pass out with HR as my major and Marketing as my minor. In haste, I got into a marketing job through campus placements. It's been almost a year now. I want to transition into the HR field. Will I be treated as a fresher? Can someone please advise me on how I can secure a job in HR?

Thank you for your help.

Yes, Swapna - you will be treated as a fresher in the HR line. However, some weightage may be given towards exposure to a working environment due to your marketing experience - though this may not amount to much in terms of salary.

Where are you located?

Hi, your experience is not counted in the HR Department because you have experience in the marketing department. Therefore, you got a job in HR as a fresher. Can you work in the HR Department as a recruiter? If yes, then I can help you.

Hi Rajshree,

If you want to earn more money, consider joining the marketing department as they offer good salary packages after gaining experience. Can you please suggest any jobs that can provide a substantial income? I am currently a fresher. My major is HR, and my minor is marketing. Please help me out.

Thank you, Swapna, for addressing a problem that I am also facing. I have been searching for assistance for a long time but have been unable to find any, as everyone has been offering me Business Development roles. However, as an MBA in HR, I am currently looking to make a change.

Dear Swapna,

You will be treated as a fresher when it comes to the HR field, but your overall experience will be 1 year, so don't worry.

Good luck to you.

Hi,

This is Suneeth Sharma. If there is any opportunity in your current company for HR, please consider it. Your experience in marketing may be beneficial in this role. If you leave the company, your experience may not be taken into account.

Thank you to all who have responded. It is nice to hear some soothing statements when you are really down. Besides being a marketing analyst, I also handle entire recruitment activities in my current organization. I request you all to let me know if there are any openings in Hyderabad in the field of HR.

[QUOTE=frnz4swapna;1128653] Hi all, I am an MBA 2009 graduate with HR as my major and Marketing as my minor. Transitioning from Marketing to HR

Transitioning from Marketing to HR will likely be considered an entry-level move. However, you can increase your chances of landing a job by refining your communication skills and determining the specific HR area you are interested in, whether it be Recruitment or HR Operations.

Hello Friends, Although I am new to this portal in terms of posting, I have been familiar with this site for a long time, which has helped me in various ways.

In continuation of the query raised by Swapna, I am also facing an issue with my own dilemma of finding a good opportunity in the market. I have an MBA in general management and am a German language specialist, with almost 2.5 years of work experience post-MBA, totaling 5.5 years (including my experience as a language specialist).

Currently, I am serving in my current organization as an HR executive, holding the position of HOD for this entire site (corporate office). Additionally, I am an active member of our Marketing team, participating in marketing events, marketing communication, and yearly planning.

With this experience, I am a little confused about how to proceed with my career now. I have never been interested in paperwork or clerical functions, although as an HR HOD, I have to be a part of it.

Please suggest, advise, and help me with your valuable inputs.

Regards,
Ashima
