Does this LWF need any specific registration?
Not necessarily in every state. You can send a local or at-par cheque to the concerned Welfare Commissioner's Office along with the relevant Challan-cum-Return by Registered AD/Speed Post. They will send a receipt along with the Code No.
Can the LWF amount of Chennai be paid in Bangalore?
No. This contribution is payable for the respective state.
If the company doesn't meet the basic criteria of the number of employees in each location, is it okay to skip the payment?
Yes. But if you are carrying out any contractual job, then the Principal Employer can insist on making the payment.
DD for the eligible regions has to be paid in the LWF Office of the local regions.
You can make the payment by cheque but with the LWF office.
Does this payment have to go with any supporting documents? What are the documents?
Yes. With Challan-cum-Return. In Maharashtra, use Form Challan A-1, in Bangalore Form D, and in Chennai, please check with the LWF office.
Can the half-yearly payment be made once a year? Will this incur any interest?
No. You have to pay half-yearly. However, in Karnataka, the contribution is payable yearly, i.e., the contribution is deductible in the month of December salary. Employee's Contribution is Rs.20 per employee and Employer's Contribution is Rs.40 per employee. The above contribution shall be made along with a statement in FORM "D" prescribed under the Karnataka Labour Welfare Fund Act 1965 & Rules and submitted to the board on or before 15th January 2018 to:
Labour Welfare Commissioner,
Karnataka Labour Welfare Board,
Karmika Kalyana Bhavan
