ESI Ceiling Limit Increase: When Did the New Rs. 15,000 Cap Take Effect?

Recently, I read in the news about the enhancement of the ESI ceiling limit from Rs. 10,000.00 to Rs. 15,000.00, effective from 1st April 2010. Could you please inform me from which date the above ceiling is effective?

There is no official communication from the Regional Office of the ESI Corporation that has been amended. You will definitely receive an official announcement, but it may only be provided with retrospective effect.

Proposal has been put up in the cabinet and also the gazette for the proposal has been drafted, but the matter is still under consideration for cabinet approval. We are eagerly awaiting the notification.

ESIC Wage ceiling from 10000 to 15000

The ESI Corporation has approved to enhance the wage ceiling from Rs. 10,000 per month to Rs. 15,000 per month for coverage of employees under the ESI Scheme in its 149th meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge. Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat and the vice-chairman, ESIC, were also present at the meeting. Keeping in view the increase in the cost of living index and recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, the corporation increased the wage ceiling limit for coverage of the employees under the ESI Scheme. This will help the corporation provide a social security net to more employees of the Organised sector.

It has been decided in the 149th meeting, and notification from the corporation is awaited. The notification will be issued this month, and the same will be effective from 1st April 2010.

Notification calling for objections, if any, has been issued by the Government. Gazette notification may be expected at any time.

Officially, it is not declared in a gazetted notice. Even if so, it will be implemented with effect from 1st Oct 2010 or 1st Apr 2011.

All of us knew the fact that the ESI ceiling has been revised from 10,000 to 15,000/-. There are notifications from the Ministry as well as it is published in the Gazette. However, yesterday when I visited the SRO office and discussed this, they informed me that they have not received any official notification for this until today. So, you are requested to please wait for some time. As soon as we receive the notification, we will inform you.

Don't worry. If the ceiling limit changes, the E.S.I. board will send the official note to all the organizations covered under it.

New ESIC Ceiling Limit has been revised with effect from 1st April 2010. The new limit has been enhanced from Rs. 10,000.00 to 15,000.00 (Gross Salary). The notification from the AP government was released in the month of May 2010 but will be effective from 1st April 2010.
