Understanding EPF Withdrawal Process & Contributions in Employee Provident Fund

bapujipinisetti
Dear Friends,

I worked for an organization from 10.04.2009 to 02.09.2009. As per CTC, they deducted EPF of Rs. 903/- per month. By the end of August, the total accumulated amount was Rs. 4213. I resigned from the job on 02.09.2009 and applied for PF withdrawal. When I submitted the PF withdrawal request, the HR Executive informed me that I would receive Rs. 4213 + Rs. 4213 (from the employer).

Recently, the PF office deposited only Rs. 4800/- into my account. To my knowledge, the PF office did not pay the employer's share of PF. Please advise on how to retrieve the remaining balance amount.

Regards,
P. Bapuji.

Dear P Bapu ji,

The PF is deducted at 12% of the Basic salary. I agree with you that the employee and employer contributions were the same. With effect from 16th Nov 07, some norms have been changed. If the company is registered in RPFC, then some amount from the employer will go to EPF, so the employer contribution is divided. The 8.33% is transferred to EPS (Employee Pension scheme), and the balance 3.67% is the employee's contribution to PF.

For Example:
Case 1: If the basic salary is Rs 5000/-
Employee contribution: Rs 600/- (12%)
Employer contribution: Rs 183.50/-(3.67%)
Transfer to EPS: Rs 416.50/-(8.33%)

To withdraw the amount with EPS, i.e., a pension scheme, you need to fill out a form. I am sending you the attachment for the same, i.e., a pension withdrawal form.

I think they have provided you with both the amounts of the employer as well as the employee, but they have deducted the eligible amount from the employer's part.

Dear Friends,

However, the PF office recently deposited only Rs. 4800/- into my account. To my knowledge, the PF office did not pay the employer PF contribution. Kindly advise on how to claim the remaining balance amount.

P. Bapuji

EPF Members should have more than 6 months of service to claim the EPS amount, which is 3.67%. This is why you did not receive the amount as mentioned by HR. You can also clarify the details of your account from the nearest EPFO Sub-Regional Office.

Dear Bapuji,

I agree with Divansyu. You must check whether you have filled the pension withdrawal form or not!!

Dear Mr. Divyanshu,

Thank you for this valuable information of which I was not aware, but should know as I have just started my career in HR.

Employee contribution is 12% of your basic and DA. Employer contribution is 8.33% towards FPF (Pension fund), and the remaining 3.67% will be deposited into your PF account. Therefore, the total PF contribution will be 12%, with 3.67% going into your PF account, while the rest will be allocated to your Family Pension account, subject to a maximum of 6500/- of your salary.

I hope this explanation is clear. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

Dear friend,

I am sorry to inform you that the service period for EPF Accumulation needs to be more than 6 months in order to claim the EPS amount of 3.67%. This is likely why you did not receive the amount as mentioned by HR. For further clarification, you can inquire about your account details at the nearest EPFO Sub-Regional Office.

With regards,
Sathish
