Hi,
There is no such standard rule to make the break up. Break-up should be prepared in such a way so as to minimise the tax liability. To minimise the tax liability some factors are HRA, Food voucher, Travelling, House Furnishing Allowance, Medical Reimbursement, Children Education, Newspaper and periodicals etc. Please consult the Tax consultant to make the breakup to minimise the tax liability.

Dear Rose,
The salary structure varies from company to company. It depends on what components you include at what level. Especially at the top management level it is designed keeping in view the tax liability of the employee. Due to Fringe Benefit Tax it is not much possible to save taxes by giving additional benefits. You can consult the Tax Advisor for this.
A sample salary structure is mentioned below for your reference:-
Cost to the Company 420000 540000
Basic 255825 333747
HRA 102330 133499
Transport Allowance / Conveyance Allowance 17908 23362
Uniform/ Maintenance Allowance 17908 23362
Attendant Allowance 15000 15000
PF 780 780
Medical Allowance 1250 1250
Driver Allowance 6500 6500
Books & Periodicals 2500 2500
