Yes, in some states, it's applicable in hospitals as well. For Punjab, I am sure it's effective from 24th October 2008. Notification copy is attached.

If you are with a medical establishment, please check for your organization as many states have followed the same, as it was suggested by Panchdeep Bhawan, Delhi, to all states to implement in their respective states.

I am sorry, friends, but I found the above information to be somewhat mistaken. The ESI Act has become applicable to Medical and Educational Establishments from 27.08.2006 onwards.

Vivek, please ignore the previous message. There are different dates for different states. I have attached the notification for Punjab; it may be possible that it's applicable to other states on another date.

ESI is applicable in hospitals as well. The applicability of ESI can extend to schools, cinema halls, restaurants, shops, etc.

I'm working in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Can anyone confirm regarding the ESI applicability by salary? I came to know that a new amendment has been made in ESI. It was applicable up to the salary of Rs. 10,000/- per month, and now it has been increased to those with a salary up to Rs. 13,000 or Rs. 15,000 per month, effective from April 2010. Please clarify if anyone is aware of this.

The enhancement of the salary limit has been approved by the ESIC, but the government notification is yet to come.

Yes, ESI applicability has been increased from 10K to 15K but is effective from May 2010.
