Fresh Graduates Struggling for Jobs: How Can We Break the "Experience Required" Barrier?

FrancisXavier86
I am an MSW graduate looking to start my career. Wherever I go, they ask me for experience. This question might have reached the ears of all the freshers. I do have a very good academic record of 79.5% with decent soft skills, yet they deny me entry. This problem might have reached all the seekers through off-campus interviews.

Some of them enter organizations through various referrals and end up in a job, vowing that they will provide an opportunity for a fresher in the future, which fades away with time.

If everyone needs the experienced, what should the freshers do?

Hello Friend,

I can understand your feelings. If someone doesn't give any chance to freshers, how can they become experienced persons? An experienced person was also a fresher before starting their career, so everybody should keep this in mind.

Dear Francis,

At the beginning of the career, everyone suffers like this. Only a few get the opportunity easily. Nowadays, a good HR network will help you in this regard. Also, ask your seniors to assist you. Do not give up. I am willing to help you as well. Please send your resume to my email ID.

Dear Francis,

The job market is still not completely open. Reports and statistics claim that the market is opening, but all good companies are playing the game of "wait and watch." By October 2010, the market will bloom in totality.

Wait for the time being. Good things come to those who wait.

Regards,
Octavious

To kill the idle time; Some organizations advertise aggressively just to maintain their visibility in the sector. Some recruitment consultants are posting positions to build their database. Some reporters are writing to fill the gaps in their newspaper. At the end of the day, in a recession, everyone has to do something or the other. For some organizations, the recession meant filtering unproductive employment and an opportunity for cost-cutting.

At the same time, it's true that jobs are not as plentiful as they were a couple of years ago. The market recession has hit hard, and recovery is possible towards the end of this year. But all said and done, it is difficult to say that the reports are untrue. Perhaps, we are expecting the market to respond as before.

Hi Francis,

Wherever I went for an interview, they asked me, "Are you an experienced guy? Do you have any kind of experience?" I don't understand how they can expect experience without offering the job first. Once, during an interview, when I mentioned that I was a fresher, the panel of interviewers looked as if I had asked for their kidneys.

They bluff, they bluff, and I remained silent, just listening. But finally, they gave me free advice and said, "Your profile didn't match our requirements." What an amazing thing, isn't it?

So, until we are a fresher, nobody cares. They exploit us. And once we gain 2 years of experience and look for a job change, they ask, "Oh, if you had experience in this particular field, we would have considered you." What kind of nonsense is that?

I am also a fresher experiencing the same problem and don't know what to do. Wait, wait, wait until you get the right time. Here is a quote to remain patient:

"Samay Se pehle ya Naseeb ke baad na kisi ko mila hain na kisi ko milega." It's a Hindi quote. Let anyone who knows Hindi translate it into English.

Thank you.
