Is a Confirmation Letter Essential for Switching Jobs After Probation?

Hello friends, my colleague joined a company in March 2009. Now, one year has passed, and she still has not received the confirmation letter after the 6-month probation period. She has been informed that it will be provided, but it has not been done yet. Everything else seems to be okay.

Is a Confirmation Letter Necessary for Joining Another Company?

Now, the question is, is it necessary to have this confirmation letter to join another company? Please provide some input.

It's not necessary to get the confirmation letter to join any other company. You will need your experience certificate. However, as you are still on probation, your designation in the experience certificate will be written as "Trainee." Based on that certificate, you can join any other company.

If you receive the confirmation letter to be converted to an employee/consultant of the company, the only difference would be that "employee" will be written on your experience certificate and salary certificate.

Thanks for your reply. I understand this, but what about the notice period if she leaves now? What will be the notice period, 1 month or 3 months, because as per the offer letter, on confirmation, the notice period will be 3 months. Also, what will they write in the experience letter because she joined as an Assistant Manager?

Generally, this is the policy of most companies to offer candidates an appointment letter with a precondition of a probationary period of six months merely to judge their performance. There is a condition that in case of non-performance, the company can terminate the candidate without any remuneration. After successful performance, the company is liable to confirm the services. If this is not done, then you are deemed to be confirmed. Generally, the notice period starts after confirmation. If these conditions are not specified, you can leave the company by giving them a short notice, e.g., one week or as per your service conditions state.

First of all, you don't need a confirmation letter to join another company. You should carry the appointment letter along with the relieving letter, experience letter, salary slips, etc. These would be more than enough for any employer.

Again, your friend doesn't need a confirmation letter as any employee who works in an organization for a year will automatically be treated as a permanent employee, regardless of a confirmation letter issued by the company. I don't exactly remember the number of days; however, I believe it is 240 working days in an organization.
