Feeling Stuck in a Monotonous Workplace? How Can We Bring Energy and Joy Back?

Genie Sriram
Hi all,

We have an HR consultancy firm, and we are doing well. We have a 9-member team working with us, specializing in sales and marketing openings.

My concern is the job seems very monotonous, and the workplace atmosphere is dull and very much machine-like. I want to know what we can do to:

1) Electrify the atmosphere,
2) Make people enjoy what they do,
3) Give complete job satisfaction, and
4) Produce excellent results.

I request the members here to advise us on how to make our workplace more enjoyable.

Dear Sir,
Give them good working conditions, make a set of rules like allocate proper job responsibilities according to the rules give them targets and take feedback. Try to find out the problem area, motivate your employees and conduct counseling programmes from time to time. Arrange some motivational programmes for them which may relate to your company's target. As a senior person you have to take strides to interact with your employees. Try to understand your employees in terms of salary etc.

Wow, what a question, and I appreciate the attitude.

Treat them with dignity and respect, value their services, appreciate their good work genuinely - do it in front of everybody. When mistakes are made, call the individual to your place and tell him/her they can do better. Hope you have read "The One Minute Manager." Follow it, and you will make the office a place that people will hate to leave.

Hi,

This feels like a typical robotic working condition with more routine/mundane activities day after day. At the same time, you are doing well in your business.

What you should do is to bring more lively extracurricular activities into the schedule, which will refresh the mind and soul of the team.

For example:
- An unscheduled meeting to discuss current issues (political/economic) that may impact your business
- A short meeting to discuss a gift for someone whose birthday is next week (make sure you give the gift)
- An extended coffee break with a presentation on a motivational topic
- Plan a dinner/movie/picnic together
- Plan a client visit schedule (breaking the monotony and building better client relations)

These activities will break the monotony, keep the mind fresh, and enhance the spirit of teamwork.
