Navigating PF Claims and Family Pension After an Employee's Passing: Guidance Needed for His Family

erv
Hi, One of our employees passed away recently. We have just discovered that he did not withdraw his PF accumulations from his previous employer in Mumbai, where he worked before joining our company. We are unsure of his length of service there, but it is estimated to be around 6 years. He was assigned a new PF account number in our company and had been working with us for the past year.

Could you please provide guidance on how his wife and his two sons and daughter (all aged between 15 to 21 years) can claim his PF accumulations and family pension? Additionally, we would appreciate information on the necessary forms and documents that need to be filed for the process.

Thank you.

The legal representative of the deceased shall apply for the withdrawal of PF by separate applications to two offices with attachments of the death certificate and legal heir certificate. It shall be easier if the forms are forwarded through the employer.

Hi Madhu Sir,

Thank you for your guidance. Can you provide guidance on claiming Monthly Pension under the Employees Pension Scheme 1995 for the wife of the deceased employee and his children?

Hi Madhu,

Can you tell me how to withdraw my PF from the other company where I worked five years ago without having to visit their office?

You can send Form 20 and Form 10-D directly to the EPF Office (previous location) after attesting your signatures by a gazetted officer, bank manager, etc.

Hi Mr. Madhu,

Should the wife and children of a deceased employee submit a claim for Widow and Children's Pension in Form 20, Form 10D, Form 5 IF to two PF offices separately? Please suggest what should be done.

Submission of Forms 20 and 10 D

Forms 20 and 10 D need not be submitted separately by the widow and children, but the widow can submit the forms. In the present case, since there was no transfer that took place from the previous account to the present PF, she will have to send applications to both offices. Still, there is another technical issue because the PF amount can be withdrawn from different offices, but the pension (monthly pension) cannot be from two offices. Therefore, it would be perfect to seek advice from the concerned authorities of the EPFO.
