Waiting on Interview Results: Should I Call or Email HR for an Update?

I have been going through this forum for the past week and have found some really helpful answers to some of my questions. I attended an interview one week ago, and the result is pending. The interviewer mentioned that HR will get back to me once they finalize. It's been a week, and I have not received any calls or emails. What can be the right approach to contact HR and inquire about the status of the interview - should I do it through email or call on the phone? How should I start the conversation? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

They did not select you for that particular post. This is one thing, or the HR forgot about that matter. First, you mail to that respective person and then, if there is no reply, call directly.
