The role of HR is unlimited in Healthcare industry and that too particularly in Hospitals. It has all challenges which other industries have like recruitment, attrition, retention, training on customer care, basic behaviour expected from doctors, patients, employee colleagues, visitors etc etc., training on technical and non technical aspects of patient care and a lot more on training, performance assessment, performance management system, career planning and development, climate surveys, assessment and development centers, etc etc.,.

Healthcare(the Hospital Vertical) in India is a very nascent stage in India - because of which the practices are not as evolved as some of the other sectors (IT for eg.), that said a HR guy could have to dabble between any of the following -
Talent Acquisition (which would include Manpower Budgeting, Recruitment, Sourcing, Selection, Campus Relations), Training (medical and non-medical), Employee Welfare, Engagement (esp with the medical professionals eg. Doctors), Performance Management (KRA setting exercise, Appraisal exercise) - these would be some of the functions at a unit hospital (if it is a chain of hospitals).
Also, in case of a chain of hospitals (or even a standalone hospital) - the Head Quarters could have roles like Change Management, Organization Development, Employer Branding - which would be more at a strategic level...hope this gives you a better idea of HR in Healthcare...
