Workplace Accident: Should the Company Cover Salary During Medical Leave?

nvv_satyanarayana
Dear All,

There was an incident where an employee met with an accident while on duty. His medical expenses have been taken care of by the company, and the doctor has advised him to take 20 days of rest.

Now, should his salary be paid by the company for the days he has been advised to rest, or does he need to apply for sick leave?

I would appreciate your suggestions and comments.

Regards,
Satya

The best is to check the law in your country. Is the law covering this aspect? Indeed, salary might be a kind of concern and motivation as compared with other competitive companies.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask.

You have to abide by the law. In fact, if an accident occurs while on duty, therefore, from a humanitarian viewpoint, he should be entitled to get salary.

Dear Satya,

If the employee is covered under ESI, then sickness benefits will be paid by ESIC. If the employee is not covered under ESI, then give him sick leave.

Dear Satya,

I have a small doubt regarding the question. Did that accident happen in your organization? What is your industry type?

Thank you.
