How Can We Make Our Employee Orientation More Engaging and Effective for Engineers?

ganethri
Hi all,

We conduct an employee orientation program (1-day program) for all our new entrants every month, as every other company does. We talk about the vision, mission, and history of the organization and take them through some team-building activities so that the interaction with the new entrants is good. It is mainly front-ended by the HR team. During the second half of the day, we also take them through a session on business etiquette, etc.

Please suggest what else needs to be added to the program, especially in terms of business etiquette, to make it more lively. Also, it would be very helpful if you could share some of the PowerPoint files you are using now (if it does not conflict with the interests of your organization).

Note: Most of the individuals we hire are either diploma or graduate engineers - freshers to 15 years of experience.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
G. Ganesh

Hi,

In my company, I used to be the coordinator for the orientation program. The focus of this program was the total integration of employees and the company.

1) We structured it as a 4-day program, with 3 days of conference-style sessions and the last day featuring a plant visit.
2) During the 3 days of hall orientation, we covered the company profile, history, structure, and each function head gave their presentation on their area, connecting it to other functions to illustrate total integration.
3) Following the orientation sessions, we took them on a plant visit and a frontline sales visit to provide a practical understanding of how the business operates in a real environment.

Additionally, we assigned a peer friend to each new employee to help them quickly adapt to our office environment, culture, spoken and unspoken norms.

Thanks,
Rajiv
