Feeling Stuck in Front-End Retail Management: How Can I Transition to a Corporate Role?

ankur.roy
Dear All,

It's been 10 years since I have been working in the Retail Sector. I am a part of the front-end management team, working as a 'Store Ops Manager'. However, I have grown quite tired of managing front-end operations and am doing my best to find a suitable opening in the Corporate/Backend sector. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in finding one so far. The more I try to secure a job in the backend sector, the more calls I receive for front-end positions only.

Consequently, I am feeling very frustrated and not enjoying my current role at all. I do not have any issues with the Retail Industry itself, but it is specifically the front-end role that is slowly becoming unbearable for me. Kindly help...

Thank you.

Dear Ankur Roy,

I can understand that you need a change. I would suggest you not to get frustrated because the profile which you are in is a front-end manager or anything in that kind. I am certainly sure that you have posted your profile onto some job portals. The only reason why you receive calls for the same position is nothing but the job profile you are currently working on.

I could suggest you to stop posting on the job portals and search for jobs by yourself on the same portals. Make sure to call the company after posting and try to have a word with the concerned recruitment manager about your interest, asking them for a chance for an interview where they would be able to match your skill set.

If you are frustrated and nervous, you won't be able to give your 100% in your search, and that would also affect your performance in interviews. Remember, chances are very rare...

Can anyone help me in getting an office job? I tried my best to find the right office job, but still, I am only being considered for front-end retail jobs due to my 10 years of experience in the same field.

Kindly help!

For office work, why don't you try getting into BPO for a few months? I am sure that after that, it will be very easy for you to get jobs in the back office.

Hi Ankur,

It might sound a bit philosophical, but it's true - do not get frustrated and do not hurry. Work on it with a cool state of mind. Please read the following steps:

1. Initially, ask yourself where you want to be, I mean exactly the kind of job that interests or attracts you.
2. Look for the institution that will train you in the selected profession. Please get trained professionally. Yes, initial investment will be required, but do not worry; it will be returned to you in its own way. Moreover, it will boost your confidence because if you are trained in that profession, you can render your service with full confidence and advance to a higher position very soon.
3. Update your resume well and post it on main job portals.
4. Be prepared for the interview and be ready for questions related to the field change.

All the best.

@Vijaya - He must have done what you advised? I mean, just look at the date when he started this thread; it's mid-February. Keeping cool for this amount of time becomes difficult.

Other than that, your other suggestions make sense, especially the skill addition.
