Building a Community for Safety Professionals: How Can We Collaborate on HSE Challenges?

Dear All Safety Professionals!!!

Site HR website seems like a very good place for getting solutions to almost all HR queries. HSE also has its own place on this site. It's really showing the importance of HSE in today's world.

So, I wish to utilize this and make this a place from where all of us can clear our queries related to Health, Safety & Environment. A place where we can get solutions to HSE and have healthy discussions related to HSE.

Instead of opening so many new threads, let us keep one. This is my suggestion, and I hope it will surely help all of us. We can refer to one book instead of referring to too many books. Nobody is perfect, and no man is an island. So, I hope that this will be the beginning of a good knowledge-sharing and gaining process for all the safety professionals in this forum.

I request all safety professionals to take this positively and come forward with your views, thoughts, suggestions, experiences, etc. Let us build a team, be hand in hand in the voyage of safety!

I hope we can start with a healthy discussion on "Scaffolding Safety."

No reply even after two days of posting... Hope nobody seems interested in a discussion the way I thought... However, let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst!!!

I am attaching a file "A Guide to Scaffold Use in the Construction Industry," which is based on OSHA's standard... Hope this may be helpful to all of you...

Now, I would like to clarify the following:

1. Does anyone have the latest Indian Standard for Scaffolding?
2. How many types of Scaffolds are there as per IS?
3. Is providing Vertical ladder (Monkey Ladder) as a means of access and egress in Scaffolding acceptable? Is it according to standards?

I don't have the IS standards. But I can share with you about the types of scaffolds:
1. Independent tied scaffolds - 3 different types like Light duty, Medium duty, and Heavy duty
2. Mobile tower scaffolds
3. Birdcage scaffolds
4. Truss scaffolds
5. Independent scaffolds - It differs from Independent tied scaffolds. This is not tied to the structure for stability, so the height of them shall not be more than 3 times its minimum base dimensions.
6. Trestle scaffolds

I have some queries regarding the classification of scaffolds based on IS standards or any other relevant standards. Mr. Kesav Pillai has initiated discussions to address doubts in this regard. I have also posted my queries in that thread. Let's await responses there to draw conclusions.

1. Independent tied scaffolds - categorized into Light duty, Medium duty, and Heavy duty.
2. Mobile tower scaffolds

5. Independent scaffolds - these differ from Independent tied scaffolds as they are not tied to the structure for stability. The height of these scaffolds should not exceed 3 times their minimum base dimensions.
