Protecting a Folder on Your PC: Can You Really Add a Password?

usha_nalawde
Hi All,

I want to protect a folder on my PC with a password. I'm not sure whether this can be done. Can anyone help, please?

Dear Usha,

Create a new ZIP folder and move the folder (which you want to lock or give a password to) into the ZIP folder. After moving the folder to the ZIP folder, click on the ZIP folder and go to the file menu. In that menu, you will find the option to add a password.

I hope this helps.

Dear Jiguparmar,

This is a very useful and good practice to password-protect any important folder. Keep posting these kinds of new and useful things on citehr.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Jigu,

Thank you for such a wonderful tool. It worked very well. Can you please advise on the process to retrieve the data in the locker folder if the locker.bat file is accidentally deleted?

Good question, Usha. I too did the same thing while trying out options with the locker folder. Actually, if the locker folder is deleted or the bat file is deleted, one cannot lock it again in the same path, and one needs to copy the files to a different path to lock it once again.

Yes, Anonymous is right. If you don't know the path of your batch type folder and unfortunately delete the folder, then it can reactivate. So, the folder path is necessary.

To provide more security, create one batch file in one drive, put another batch file inside it (located at the same or another drive), and put your data inside it. This gives you more security!!!

Jigu, what if we forget the password of the folder or if someone deletes the .bat file. Any remedy for this?
