Starting HR Operations in a New Company: What Steps Should I Follow?

I am an HR Executive and would like to know about the sequential steps to be taken for implementing all HR operations for a company startup.

Hi Sush,

It would be quite a lengthy list of operations if you already have some education in the HR field and your organization is new. In that case, it's best to follow established practices. If you don't have any education in HR, consider reading some basic books such as "Gery Dessler" from Pearson Publication. If your organization has some HR policies defined, use them as a foundation to move forward.

The bottom line is: provide us with more information so we can offer you better guidance.

I would definitely agree with what Ajmal has to say, that it's going to be quite a lengthy process, but I'm trying to answer your question in a few lines. It's not that I know better, I'm just putting in my effort. If it helps you, well and good. If not, maybe you can develop on it with help from other knowledgeable members of CHR.

Well, see if you can lay hands on this book by K Aswathappa titled "Human Resource and Personnel Management." Page 15 of this book has a graphical representation. Go through that; I feel this answers your question. I don't have a soft copy of the same; if I did, I would've posted it right away. Maybe once you read through that, you can seek help from senior members on CHR, and they might be able to assist you even better.

Thank you, guys, for the wonderful advice. In fact, I have started with a presentation describing the roadmap for how I will be getting off the ground. Additionally, I have also drafted the process flow. However, the primary objective I have is to conduct the job analysis and then specify each one's JD.

I have not yet received your post on developing HRD. Probably, that will be of great help to me. I am a 9-month experienced HR executive for a service industry and have had to implement many HR activities.

To start with the JA process, could you please let me know what kind of questionnaire I should be drafting for this purpose? Should it be competency-based?
