Facing a Background Check Dilemma: Should I Come Clean to HR About My Mistake?

killer_k007
Actually, I made a mistake without knowing it. I got a job from a big IT company, but the problem is I provided some wrong information to my offered company regarding my employment details. I mistakenly provided details from my first company instead of my last company. I know this is a big mistake. Now, they are asking me to fill out an NSR in the background check, and they may discover these discrepancies.

In reality, it's not entirely incorrect. I added 6 extra months to my first company because during that time, I was undergoing training. However, in my employment letter, I have 6 months less stated, and everything else is accurate.

I am considering going to HR and disclosing everything, but I'm unsure if it's the right thing to do. I do not want to deceive anyone, and I really need this job. Please help me with this; I am finding it difficult to sleep, and this situation is causing me distress. Can anyone please provide some suggestions?

Thanks.
I am unable to disclose my name, sorry.

Cut your losses and go tell them that you have made a genuine mistake. It's better that you tell them before they find out.

Please help me with the status of my PF. I have been following up for more than a year now. My PF number is DL/24041/4826. I cannot locate where to go from the home page on epfindia.com.

You need to talk with HR and accept your fault. Try to convince him that you work honestly and provide better work performance. The rest is up to HR, but do not be late.

Thanks

Dear,

Off late, this kind of cases is listed in HR site, and it is not a good sign as I feel. Basic traits for any profession, more so for HR, are sincerity, honesty, and integrity. Forget about other qualifications and norms. Since you have now realized your mistake, be open with the HR of the new company and ask for pardon; that's the only best thing you can do now.

All the best, B. Dakshina Murty

Thank you, sir.

Today was my joining, so I went, and I said everything about that mistake. So, what I expected was the same thing done, but I think I lost my job. But that's good; I can't work with this mistake. I am sorry for the trouble for everyone.

Thanks
Mahr
Dear Killer,

Thanks for the bold and positive approach. I sincerely appreciate your act on behalf of everybody. I didn't understand the thing "but I think I lost my job." Did they give you feedback that you are not selected? Remember, background verification is done not for the level of capabilities you have.

Again, do call them and follow up. Don't just be idle. Then don't think you are disturbing us; in spite, I appreciate that you took our advice. All the best!

Those seem like now we are doing background verification. If that's completed, or if you received any emails from HR about any objections, something like that, you won't be able to join. If you haven't received it, you can join. This is what they said to me. After that, I came back.

Dear Killer;
The law does not prevent anybody to kill. It only says,” If you kill anyone, you will be punished so and so" Now you have already killed, and if you accept your crime, before you are caught, you may win little sympathy of others and may fired minor punishment. But you will have to be ready for the consequences. There is no escape. Remember, one lie will produce several and one day you will be finding yourself in the net woven by you. Sooner is better.
His Blessings;
Sharad Shah

Your effort (sincerity) may fail, but you shouldn't give up your effectiveness.

Thank you, guys. I know the mistake I made, but I don't want to cheat anyone. I know what my skills are. I posted for suggestions, went and saw everything. Now, I am happy as I have corrected my resume. I don't want to make this mistake again. Thanks for giving suggestions.
