Is It Safe to Resign Before Receiving a Signed Job Offer Letter? Seeking Advice!

rushaG
I have recently received a job offer from a reputed company and am looking forward to working with them. They have sent me the offer letter in PDF format attached to an email from their official email ID, copying other senior members of the team. However, the PDF is not signed by any authority. They have informed me that the signed offer letter will be provided on the date of joining.

Is there any risk if I resign from my current organization before receiving a signed copy of the offer letter from them?

Well, it all depends upon the company size and market value. Normally, some companies send the scanned copy of the offer letter to the candidate to save time and energy after all discussions.

According to me, under the IT Act, SMS and email are legal documents to prove in court. In your case, you can ask for the signed scanned copy of the offer letter through email or ask them to courier it to you, but be polite with them as they are your future employer. Also, if you know someone in that company, cross-check the procedure of extending offers and details of the person marked in the email.

Rest assured, believe in yourself... all is well.

Thanks, Rohit!

They have sent me the Offer Letter via email, but my only concern is that they had mentioned in the email that after my acceptance of the offer via email, they will send me a signed copy of the offer letter. However, now after I accepted, they are saying that it's okay for me to resign without the signed offer letter, and I find it risky to resign from my current position based on verbal communication.

Please guide me.

That's okay. It's a matter of trust. If the organization is good, they will not get into all the crap. Yes, you have to accept the offer by signing. In your case, the offer is extended to you through email, so you have to acknowledge that through email only.

I am working for a reputed organization, and we also follow the same procedure. We send the offer letter in PDF format without the signature. I don't think there is any risk in accepting the offer if it is from a reputed organization.
