How Can I Transition from Medical Transcription to Core HR Roles? Seeking Advice

Headhunter
Dear all I work as a Production Manager for a mid-size Medical Transcription company in Chennai for the past 4 years. My involvement in HR activities have primarily been manpower planning, recruitment, induction, training, performance appraisal, coordinating HR initiatives, grievance handling, exit interviews etc. (Not handled payroll, tax, PF, ESI as we have an Accounts Dept. that takes care of it) and also my regular operational duties in Medical transcription. I have finished MHRM a 2-year program via distance education mode and would like to digress into the HR mainstream. Please advice on how to go about it as my resume is all about Medical Transcription, and as a HR person would you hire someone with a profile like mine, if so, where would I fit in. I'm currently 31 years of age and drawing 3 Lacs per annum (compromising on the package is not an issue). Thanks in Advance.

Hi Benny,

In my view, first you need to draft your resume matched with HRD activities that you deal with in your present designation: viz training; performance appraisal; mentoring and counseling new recruits; recruitments if you have conducted any; your objectives and the specific field you want to work in like talent management and recruitment/employee relations. These are areas which are common to many senior professionals working in different domains.

Surf the net for sample HR resumes and top it with your current operational abilities. I do not see any constraints for your changing field. You can then send your resume to as many consultants you know, and I am sure you will get the break. If you face any interviews, then before appearing, read topics on HRD on forums and different HR sites.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any concerns.

Best regards,
Partha.

Dear Benny,

Even though my profile is similar to yours, I was working as an editor in MT and have been in that industry for approximately 6 years. I decided to change my career path to HR, completed a 2-year full-time HR course, and joined a BPO company where my responsibilities included both HR and MT work. Now, I am finding it very difficult to secure a job in HR. I am reaching out to seek your support and guidance. Please help. You can contact me via email at saravanakumar.mk@hotmail.com or reach me at 9840719408.

Thanks and regards,
Saravana
