Navigating PhD Registration: How to Find Affordable UGC-Approved Options in India?

minalsoni
Hi,

I would like to do a PhD registration. When will UGC change the norms? Is it possible in your state? I have done all my masters through distance learning. From where can I do my PhD? Please suggest a name except IGNOU. IGNOU is taking too much time. Other private institutes are very costly. Is there value in an online PhD? If yes, then from where in India? I want to do it from a UGC-approved university.

Thanks, Minal

Is a candidate with an MBA in HR (completed) and an M.Phil in HR (not yet completed) eligible to apply for a Ph.D. program directly? If so, please provide recommendations for universities.

I heard Periyar University has this option. You can check on the web for Periyar University or Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

Dear Seniors,

I am also interested in doing my PhD. However, I have only 6 months of work experience in an HR generalist profile. I completed my MBA in HR in July 09.

Please guide me on when is the right time to proceed with it and what additional qualifications I can look out for in the meantime along with my work.

Please advise.

Dear Manoj,

There is another option for pursuing a Ph.D., which is through AIMA in New Delhi. AIMA has a partnership with Aligarh Muslim University, offering a distance learning program.

Thanks,

Manoj

Dear Swati,

I am also registering myself for a Ph.D. As per my knowledge, it just requires a master's degree in the relevant field; otherwise, you need to apply for an eligibility certificate, which would permit you to pursue a Ph.D. Work experience is not a criterion for Ph.D. registration. The new norms are already making news; therefore, loads of people are already rushing for Ph.D. registration.

Hello Friends,

This could certainly be good news for all those who are interested in a Ph.D. The University of Pune has published an advertisement about the entrance exam for a Ph.D. in the coming academic year. It's a well-known university.

The exam is to be held in February. For details, you can visit the website of the University. One can also engage in interdisciplinary research.

Thank You,

Dear Ph.D. Aspirants,

UGC has given fresh guidelines for registration for Ph.D. Most of the universities are in the process of formulating the exact rules based on the guidelines. Here is some information:

1) There will be an entrance exam for Ph.D.
2) NET, SET qualified, and M.Phil students will be exempted from the entrance exam.
3) I think for Pune University, the entrance exam will be in two phases.
4) The first paper will be on General Awareness and Reasoning Ability, and the second will be specific to your subject. Most probably, Pune University will have its entrance exam for Paper 1 on 14th February.
5) The schedule for the entrance exam for Ph.D. from Symbiosis International Deemed University is also awaited.

I will surely update in case of any more news.

Thanks,
Dipali

Dear All,

A candidate can take admission in three ways:

1. PhD from Top-level Universities or IITs - Direct Admission by clearing JRF (Junior Research Fellowship). (The candidate will also get a scholarship.)
2. Middle-level universities - by clearing NET (National Eligibility Test) examination.
3. Most of the universities also take entrance examination for PhD.
4. Some of the institutes also provide fellowships like IIM, IMT Ghaziabad. This is equivalent to a PhD but not eligible for teaching on a permanent basis in Government institutes.

Few of the universities provide PhD in Management like Agra University, Meerut University, Gurukul University. Others provide degrees in Commerce. Different topics can be chosen like Industrial Relations, Payroll Management, etc. For Management, it needs an MBA, not PGDM, etc.

For any queries related to the above, feel free to call me at 9997997097.

Hi,

This is Shailu. I completed my MBA with HR in 2007. Currently, I am working as a faculty in a P.G. college, and I am pursuing my MPhil from Dravidian University. Many universities are currently offering Ph.D. courses. Osmania University is offering a regular Ph.D. for management professionals, but they are conducting an eligibility test. If you are interested in taking the exam, please check the O.U. website at www.osmaniauniversity.ac.in. Additionally, Kakatiya University is also offering a Ph.D. program.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
