Provident Fund - Maximum Period Upto Which PF Withdrawal Can Be Done

Hi Friends,

Please help! I wanted to understand the maximum period up to which Provident Fund withdrawal can be done. I resigned from the organization in Bangalore at the end of 2004. I had to urgently return to Mumbai, so I missed signing the withdrawal papers.

I understand it is very late. Please let me know if I can claim (withdraw or transfer) the provident fund now. Will the company be able to help me to access the fund amount?

Dear Lavena,

You can sign withdrawal papers now or transfer your PF to your new organization. For the transfer, you need to provide the following details to your current company:

1. Name and address of the previous company from which PF is still pending to be claimed.
2. Group Code of the previous company.
3. Date of Joining and date of leaving from the previous company.
4. Your PF number from the previous company.

These details need to be submitted to your company for transfer purposes.

There is no time bar specified for withdrawal or transfer of the PF accumulations. Your accumulations left with the EPFO earn interest, compounded until the date of withdrawal or transfer. For withdrawal, you have to obtain Form 19 & 10-C from the previous company and submit it to the same PF office area. For transfer, you have to get Form 13 submitted through your present company, but you need to know your earlier PF account number, etc.

Hi, an employee can withdraw PF irrespective of the gap that has occurred. The previous employer must oblige the ex-employee's query and help him/her to close the PF account.

I hope by this time you must have initiated steps for withdrawal of your PF amount lying with Bangalore PF Commissioner. Here is an advice for you: don't keep the money as an investment in the PF account. Day by day, the PF Act is amended swiftly. I am sure that your account is transferred as an unclaimed deposit. Don't be afraid.

Step 1: Download Form No. 19 & 10C from www.epfindia.org.

Step No. 2: Fill up the forms ensuring you write your correct PF account number and date of resignation with the help of the previous company. Complete the form.

Step No. 3: Attach the documents in support of your application as follows:
- PAN card
- Election card
- Payslip of the company
- An affidavit on Rs. 100/- stamp paper stating that after leaving the said job, you have not been enrolled as a PF/pension member anywhere and the reason for not withdrawing the PF.

The easiest way, if you are presently working with any company where you are a PF member, is to fill up Form No. 13 and submit the same to the RPFC Bangalore through your previous employer.

You can withdraw your P.F. anytime you want as it's your money. You can simply write an application to the HR of that organization regarding the withdrawal of P.F. with all the details such as your date of joining, date of leaving, bank account number, designation, and even P.F. a/c no. mentioned in your pay slip if you have one. They will send you the form mentioning the places where you have to put your signatures and other things that you have to fill in and return it to them with revenue stamps pasted on it. They may or may not ask you to pay your basic if you haven't served the notice period, but they cannot stop your P.F.

For PF withdrawal, if you are presently on payroll, talk to your HR person and state that you want to transfer your PF account from your previous company. To transfer your PF, you need to fill Form No. 13 along with one application. This way, you can access your PF money from your previous company. In this process, you will not have to go to your previous company for your PF.

You can withdraw your PF at any time; there is no time limit.

Please let me know if an employee is applying for PF withdrawal after three months of resignation but has not completed ten years of duration with EPF. In that case, will he receive his full amount, which includes Employer (12%) and Employee (12%) contributions, or will he only get the Employer (3.67%) contribution along with the Employee (12%) contribution?

Provident fund is a statutory liability for every principal employer, and there is no time limit for withdrawing the PF amount. Accordingly, you can withdraw your PF through Form No. 19 and 10C, or you can transfer the same through Form No. 13.

Dear Lavena,

It's the duty of the previous organization to serve a notice regarding your withdrawal or transfer of your PF within three months of your resignation or last working day. As it's your money, nobody can even touch it, and there is no such maximum period for application. If you wish to withdraw the amount, please write to your previous HR, and they will send you a PF withdrawal form. Fill the same, sign across putting a revenue stamp, and mention your bank account in the form while declaring your 180 days of non-employment after leaving the firm. The money gets credited directly to your account.

If you wish to transfer the same to your present organization's PF account, talk to your present HR regarding the process. He/She will help you out with the transfer process.

You can withdraw your PF now. Just send the signed form to your previous office and ask any of your colleagues to drop it at the designated PF office. Please mention your bank account number so that they can transfer the amount to your account.

Can a company make a policy that PF withdrawal is possible only after 1 year of service with the company? I am sure this can't be done, but is it vaguely supported by law? Please answer.

You can withdraw your PF contributions within three years by submitting your Form 19 & 10C along with necessary documents (like bank proof, etc.).

For more than three years, you must attach any one of the following documents along with your claim forms:

- Your previous appointment order
- Previous PF annual slips
- PAN card
- Election ID proof

It's better to attach one document for address proof and one document related to your appointment for an easy process.

For withdrawal of Provident Fund, there is no minimum service required. However, for withdrawal of pension contribution of 8.33%, minimum six months' contributions should have been paid; otherwise, no withdrawal is allowed. Furthermore, if the member has completed 9 years and 6 months, then also Employer contribution to pension fund withdrawal is not allowed, and the employee is entitled to get monthly pension at the age of 58 years or 50 years (reduce) pension.

There is no time limit or time bar for withdrawal or transfer. You will continue to be a PF member until you withdraw it. I suggest you only transfer it to your present organization if there is a PF scheme. You will continue to earn interest if you do not withdraw it.

You can withdraw your P.F. at any time with Form 19 and 10C. Please apply to the HR of that organization regarding the withdrawal of P.F. with all the necessary details. Submit the forms to the PF office, and your claim will be settled within 30 days.

Dear Lavina, please note that you can transfer your PF account to another new company when your salary does not exceed Rs 6,500. For example, if someone joins a new company with a salary of Rs 7,000, you cannot transfer your PF account to that company.

I am working as HR in my company. I received PF withdrawal forms from employees which belong to different states. After the employees sign their PF forms, can I send them to the employees so that they can submit the PF form to their respective local office in their state, or is it necessary to send the PF forms to our local office only?

If your company has a PF facility, you can have the transfer form filed by the employees to transfer the PF to your company account. If your company does not offer PF, then ask employees to submit the forms to their respective previous company.

Dear friend,

I worked at McDonald's a few years ago. About 8 months back, I applied for the PF, but I have received very poor responses from both the authorities at AonHewitt, who are intermediaries for McDonald's PF formalities, and the current management of the branch where I worked. I have been trying to get it done, but it has been 8 months without any attempt from their end. After all this, when I emailed the concerned person, he informed me that it is still in process.

Please help me with this. Can anyone advise me on how to move forward from this situation?

I have submitted my PF form last 4 months in my organization, but until now, I have not received my PF. My PF number is (PU PUN 34224 00 110633). So please tell me how much time it will take to receive my PF balance in my account. I have checked my status, but it only shows "under processing."
