Struggling to Get Interview Calls Despite Qualifications: What Am I Missing?

I am Manish Katkamwar. I have completed my MBA in HR, LL.B., and B.Com. I am registered with various job portals and consultancies, but I am still not receiving any interview calls. It's frustrating for me as I am unable to understand where I am lacking.

First and foremost, what you have to consider is your health. Please don't get frustrated or upset for any reason, as it will spoil your health. You might have heard the saying, "Sound Mind Is A Sound Body."

If our mind is in good shape, we will definitely land safely. I want to emphasize the importance of trust and confidence that everyone should possess. I am not saying that you don't have these qualities, but sometimes we lose hope and trust when our expectations fail. Please don't let your confidence waver or underestimate yourself in any situation.

Always stay relaxed, and the confidence within you will find ways to solve your problems.

As everyone has mentioned, your qualifications are a big plus for your career hunt. It's good that you have uploaded your resume on job portals and applied through various consultancies.

You can start as a Recruiter in a company or consultancy until you reach your dream designation or profile. I believe there are openings available for this designation in any season. Even if recruiters are not calling you, why don't you make them call you? Allocate some time to search for the designation you would like to apply for. You can search for it on all job portals and search engines like Google. Send your resume to all the companies that need someone like you.

If you are a fresher, please look out for opportunities in teaching. This will at least keep you busy. If you are not in the city, please try to locate yourself near to any good city. This will increase your job prospects.

Identify the career you want to pursue. If it's in HR, prepare yourself thoroughly in some of the recent developments and labor laws, especially since you have an LLB. Standing out, especially in a manufacturing environment, is crucial as many regular MBA HR professionals lack expertise in labor matters. Stay updated on the latest case laws, including today's report on a new ruling regarding the workman concept from the Bombay High Court.

Another suggestion is to consider having your CV professionally written (it may cost you a few thousand). Professional CV writers understand what recruiters are looking for and how to effectively position your qualifications and experience.

Lastly, remain confident, even if this is your 101st interview after facing failures in the past. Remember, for the current interviewer, you are a fresh candidate, and previous setbacks should not concern them.

Please pick up your CV file, put on your running shoes, gather a lot of patience, and visit 10 companies a day. Knock at the MD/GM/HR doors and keep knocking until you find an entry. Portals and sites are only tools; you have to run around and meet people - millions of them - until one of them says, "I will see you tomorrow."

I have obtained all my jobs by applying to organizations and meeting with the heads/chairmen. Best of luck! If you have to spend more than you can afford, don't hesitate, but be frugal. Blessings.

I would like to suggest that looking at the job scenario these days, do not be too choosy about the salary/location, etc., and try to grab every good job opportunity that comes your way.

To start with, you can go for recruitment consulting firms, LPOs, firms providing HR solutions to multinationals, etc., because these days outsourcing of HR-related work is in vogue, and it's a big industry in itself. Try to build up your HR acumen and knowledge here, and upon gaining relevant experience, your market value will certainly rise.

Besides, many FMCG/consumer durables/auto organizations, etc., have their plants located across the nation and require HR people to handle labor-related issues and HR at these sites.

Apart from the job portals, also update your resume on various companies' websites' career sections and regularly scan jobs advertised in Ascent, Employment News, etc., and through networking.
