How Can I Suggest New HR Initiatives in a Small Company Without Overstepping?

namitas
Hello Everyone,

I have recently joined a company. It's a small firm with a minimum of 50 employees in the Head Office, excluding the branches. They do not have any new and updated HR activities implemented in the organization, although the role of HR here is very strong in relation to payrolls and performance appraisals. I would like to suggest to management some new add-ons that HR can incorporate within their policies to develop HR here.

Awaiting a reply.

Regards,
Namita

Hi Namita,

There is a lot more to do in budgeting, compliance, training, recreational activities, record-keeping, etc.

I agree with the views. I want to implement small changes. For example, I cannot have an implementation of JD's and JS because the heads provide and give work to their employees at their own discretion. I cannot implement competency mapping because it's a small firm. So I need suggestions like these which can be researched further and implemented.

Hi Namita,

I provided suggestions keeping in mind small companies. Ask yourself questions about what is not up to mark in your department or company. Examples could include Personnel Files & Records, Leave Maintenance, Salary & OT Records, ID Cards, etc. Begin working on these areas and provide suggestions to management.

Hope you understood.

I understood.

As far as documentation is concerned, everything is in place. However, when it comes to the latest upgrades in HR, it is not there. So, I wanted to try something new, but I agree it has to be feasible and can be implemented.

Hi Namita,

If you can conduct training sessions based on behavioral competencies that will help everyone grow professionally and personally, then it would be great. You can organize fun activities, arrange trips, or plan some recreational activities. These initiatives will definitely enhance the organizational environment. I hope my suggestions are helpful to you.

Hi Asmita,

I am working as an HR professional in telecom O&M. Could you please suggest what type of training I should provide to my employees? I am specifically interested in motivation training. Can you advise me on this matter?

Thank you.

Yes, I think you can plan a function where you organize different activities on each day. For instance, you can start with some games to create a lively atmosphere and then proceed to screen a motivational movie like "The Secret" or any other inspiring film on a projector. These movies can be really beneficial in boosting morale and motivation. I have shared my initial thoughts, and I believe there is room for further innovation to motivate people, such as encouraging discussions to boost confidence levels and foster communication.

1. Teamwork
2. Analytical Abilities
3. Adaptability
4. Decision Making

Please let me know if you need further assistance or have any questions.

Hi Namita,

At the initial stage, you can suggest introducing Recruitment fact sheets, a formal induction process, training and development activities, regular employee communication through mails and newsletters, recreational activities, HR budgeting, leave maintenance, etc.

Additionally, conducting an employee satisfaction or feedback survey beforehand can provide insight into what employees truly want from HR. This can help in keeping resistance to new practices low and ensuring that both employees and management welcome the changes wholeheartedly.

As of now, the company does not need any training. I require suggestions for improving the basic HR functions in the organization.
