New to ISO Certification? Seeking Guidance on How to Start the Application Process

priyasarmah@gmail.com
I have recently joined an IT company that has been in existence for 3 years. Currently, they are considering obtaining ISO certification for quality and have requested me to gather information on how to apply. I do not have much knowledge about ISO myself, so I am in urgent need of assistance from seniors. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Priyanka,

Attached are some formats of ISO for a company that will help you. As far as HR is concerned, ISO focuses on training and development.

Thanks, Siddharth. Basically, we need the ISO certification for the software aspect. Our company deals with software development and web solutions. Your information was good, but I believe it was more HR-related. I don't have much knowledge about this ISO certification. Could you please suggest something more briefly?

Dear Priyanky,

You can start by looking at the website of SAI Global (Standards, Compliance, Ethics, GRC, Auditing, Certification, Training). Then, look at the tools available from Qudos Management (ISO9001 Quality, OHS, ISO14001 Environmental software & services | Qudos). Both were used by my company - Project Professionals Group to secure ISO accreditation recently.

There are several ISO certification agencies you may search on the net. They will guide you from starting to ending up to certification.

See, you don't have to worry. There are companies which look after all the documentation part. These companies have all the documents ready industry-wise. You just have to contract with them, and within 2-3 months, you will get the ISO certificate. They will charge you based on the total number of employees. There are companies like TUV and others. So, it is a very easy process.

"Say What You Do and Do What You Say" - Concept of ISO.

First of all, you have to prepare a Quality Manual comprising of quality policy, quality objectives, company procedures, checklist, process flow, and procedure for various departments, their departmental objectives, organization chart, Management responsibility, Resource Management, Product realization, Measurement, analysis & improvement via corrective action request.

My sincere advice for you is to appoint one person for each individual department. The relevant person will prepare the flow and document the procedure. Take a span of time to gather all the documents from each department, and then proceed to compile the Quality Manual, which is more practical and will yield good suggestions.

I have been working on ISO for around 8 years and have implemented and obtained certification for my previous organizations.

Make it a point that while obtaining certification, it should be a team effort leading to more success. I have worked with 3 certifying bodies: BVQI, AQA, SGS. Everywhere, the system conveys the same thing - "Say What You Do and Do What You Say."

I have attached a registration form from one of the certifying bodies; you can contact them directly or email them for future guidance.

Understanding ISO Documentation

Normally, the ISO documentation will have a set of documents that are used in the organization. They will check with that and approve it. Then, we at the organization have to document it and follow the same process. The key point in ISO standards is documenting thoroughly.
