Struggling with Kirkpatrick's Model for Hyundai Training Project – Where Do I Begin?

Hi all,

I am not a regular user of this community but am intending to post my query and get your kind assistance. I am a final year student of MBA and am working on a project related to the evaluation of Training And Development programs for Hyundai Dealership using the KIRKPATRICK's Model. However, I am confused about where to start, how to start, and what exactly I need to do. I need guidance as this is urgent.

Hi Sidharth,

Thank you very much for being so cooperative. The PowerPoint presentation material is excellent, but I don't think I will be able to use it for the project.

In the project, I need to evaluate the already existing training modules of the company at each level of the Kirkpatrick model. For each level, I require forms and statistical or other tools to analyze the responses of the trainees.

Please reply soon regarding the new doubt. I am highly obliged.

Hi Mitali,

First things first. What are you trying to achieve in the dissertation; is it a review of existing methods or is it to give recommendations for improvements? What have your sponsors/tutor said? How is the existing T&D evaluated - is there a universal evaluation methodology and is it understood by all who have to use it; is it valid, reliable, and consistent over time and between users? What data will you need to draw your conclusions? How will you collect and analyze it (e.g., subjectively, against published data from other companies, or through the company's own methods)? Can you find out any comparable studies published elsewhere?

I apologize for setting you lots of questions - but it is usually better to start with these rather than with an off-the-shelf answer. And remember - very few organizations are able to analyze the benefits of T&D at Level 4 - the best that most can do is a stab at Level 3.

Good luck,

Hello Mr. Simhan,

Thank you very much for directing me to your very relevant post.

Actually, I have already completed the Research Methodology and am clear on what I am supposed to do at Level 1 and Level 4 of Kirkpatrick's model. I have downloaded the relevant questionnaire for levels 1 and 4; for these levels, I need to gather data from the company as no questionnaire is required. However, my problem areas are related to Level 2 and Level 3. I am struggling to find the appropriate questionnaires for these levels, specifically for the self-assessment of the employees. I have obtained a worksheet for a 3T-test for these levels, but the statements provided in that worksheet are not relevant. Therefore, I need to modify them, and for this, I require the appropriate questionnaires.

As a fresher, I am evaluating the existing training practices of an automobile dealership company using the model and will provide suggestions for improvement based on my analysis (the results from all levels of the model).

Kindly guide me.

Best regards,

Hello, Mr. Roger Stent,

First of all, it's really fine with me reading all those questions because they were for my benefit. Through those questions, one can really begin with. I have again posted my actual requirement in a reply to Mr. Simhan by reading his reply as well as yours and have tried to be as clear and precise as possible so that you all may understand my problem area. Thanks for your help. Hope the same again.

Please reply.
