Understanding ESIC Registration, Smart Card Benefits, and Multi-State Enrollment

Respected seniors

I am working in an IT company, which is in the payment sector. It provides the solution for the banks and has many clients. Many of our employees are in different banks in various states (average 15 to 20 employees in each bank). Now the problem is, those employees who are within Maharastra state, have been enrolled in ESIC. But, those, who are out of state, have not been enrolled. I want them to be enrolled, so, how can I go about? Does ESIC law is different for different state? Or can employees be enrolled under one state's ESIC police. Please help.

Rules relating to ESI are common all over India. However, it would be practical to have separate ESI registrations in each state so that you can submit the returns to the respective Regional Office of ESIC, which is state-wise.

On the other hand, if you register all employees in one Regional Office of ESI and file returns in that office only, while the employees are working in other states, it will become difficult for them to receive benefits. The claims, which are always admitted and disbursed, come from the Local Office attached to the place where the worker is employed.

With the introduction of the new smart card for ESI members, employees will start receiving medical benefits from ESI dispensaries across India.

ESIC Confusion, Please Help

Dear Member,

Have you received any circular regarding the increase in the limit of ESIC? I have learned from some sources that the limit is going to be raised from INR 10,000 to INR 15,000 with effect from 01.01.2010.

You are requested to kindly email me the circular or any information regarding the same if you have it. My E-Mail ID is santosh_vspl@yahoo.co.in.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Jeedza,

ESIC has a centralized policy. You have two options. First, you enroll all the employees within the Maharashtra local office, regardless of whether they are working in Maharashtra or any other state. By doing this, you will only need to submit the ESIC Return in one place, which would be practical. Second, you can obtain separate ESIC codes for different states. However, this would require you to submit ESIC returns separately in every state where your employees are working.

Thanks,
Rajesh Sharma

Hello Madhu,

Can you explain a bit more about the smart card? Are there any websites where we can find detailed information on how employees can avail benefits from ESIC, such as the procedures?

Thanks,
Jeene

ESI smart cards are cards issued to the employee and the family members separately, enabling them to access medical facilities from any dispensary or hospital in India. It is a biometric card that provides full information about the member and family through their fingerprints. Each member will receive two cards, one for themselves and another for their family members. Using this smart card, a member can view online the details of their average pay and other information related to their eligibility for benefits.

The initiative to capture photographs of the members and their families is currently underway.

Hi all,

To avail the facilities of ESIC in multiple states, we need to register our company branches in the respective locations under ESIC.

Thanks,
Roy

Please suggest how to apply for a sub code. My company's headquarters is in Delhi, and we have branch offices in 7 different states.

Hi...You would be required to take separate Sub Codes for such cities. Only for Goa you can take a Sub Code for entire Goa. However, for other cities in States you need take separate Sub Codes and then have the regular process of ESIC Cards.

Kindly visit the ESIC office of that region where your employee(s) are working to check the applicability and process. However, my experience says you need to apply for a code or sub-code from that particular location/state and start deductions accordingly. Even though it's a central act, it differs from state to state.
