You can apply for a PAN card online at https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/index.html. For this, you need a copy of your address proof and ID proof, along with a photograph of yours. The charges for the same are somewhere between ₹50-₹100.
There are so many groups that help to issue PAN Cards, for example, Bajaj Allianz and UTI Bank. You can visit the Income Tax Department to obtain Form No. 49A or download it from the Income Tax website. Along with this form, you need to submit approximately Rs. 75, an address proof, and a photo proof. Within 15 days, you will receive your PAN card. You can check the status of your card on the Income Tax website using your application form number after one week.
The easiest way to apply is through the internet. The link is: https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/form49A.html. You have to attach your address proof, photo identity, and a recent photo of yourself. The charge is Rs. 67. You can also pay it through a credit card. It may take 10-15 days to get the PAN Card.
I have some doubts regarding the application for a PAN card. Can anybody suggest what to write in the fields - "Area Code," "AO Type," "Range Code," and "AO No"?
I am currently employed at KSP India Pvt. Ltd., located in Okhla Industrial Estate, Phase-III, New Delhi-110020.
These details will be provided by the facilitation center personnel who will receive your application. If you have filed your return earlier, please check the details from the acknowledgment given by the IT department to know the range and AO details. Alternatively, you may also obtain the same information from the helpline of the IT department operating out of Gurgaon.
Thank you very much for your reply. The Customer Care of the Income Tax Department is of no use. I want to apply online, and I have never filed my returns before (this will be my first time).
For your information and for everyone in Delhi/New Delhi to know their range, I am attaching a file showing all the information. Since your company name starts with K, your range will be 46. When you apply online, my understanding is that there are help menus available once you complete the address details. These menus assist you in figuring out your AO details. You can also obtain the same information from the website incometaxindia.gov.in.

Thank you again. This information will definitely help me. Could you please tell me how to calculate the range? Is there any information on their website? If yes, please provide me with the URL.
Thank you,

Dear Debajyoti,
You can speak to some of the bank executives; they can facilitate the PAN for you. They will, of course, charge a little extra for the same, but at least you can follow up with them. I got mine done similarly, and I received the PAN in 10 days.
I am still not very sure. I want to apply for a PAN Card online. Can anybody tell me what will be my AREA CODE, AO TYPE, RANGE CODE, and AO NO. My details are as follows:
Working at Okhla Phase-III, New Delhi-110020. Employer name starts with "K."
I stay in Chennai and work at Cognizant, with my permanent address being in Kanpur. I would like to know what I should fill in the Area code, Range type, Area type, and Ao Number fields. Please help.
Hi, I have a PAN card but currently, I am not using it, and I do not have any income. Do I still need to submit returns every year? If so, how do I submit the returns, and what is the tax percentage?
Hi Monika, I don't really have any issues applying for a PAN myself, but I don't know what these AO Codes are all about. I used the search in the form online, and it gave me a list of 22 results, and I haven't a clue which one's mine! Anyways, should HSBC (my bank) be able to help me with it?
Thank you
