Feeling Torn Abroad: Can We Find Secure Jobs Back Home with Our Experience?

Hey, guys, I am currently working abroad with a telecommunications company and have an experience of more than 10 years. During my interactions with people here, I felt that there are many people who want to return home and live with their loved ones but are afraid to make any decision because of financial insecurity. Are there jobs in the market? And does our experience here get taken into account? I would like to hear from you all there. Thank you for your participation.

There are plenty of jobs in India. As a country, India has taken huge leaps on the path to becoming a developed nation. Today, there are more opportunities than 20 years ago. Hence, you will notice a trend of reverse brain drain. People who migrated to countries like the US and Europe are now coming back to India to explore the various opportunities available here. You too can come back and explore the opportunities.

However, you need to have a realistic salary expectation. Do market research on the salaries offered in India. You may not get the salary you are currently earning overseas, but you can still get a good salary to maintain the same standard of living you currently have.

Having said the above, the first step is to make a decision. Once that's done, everything else will start falling into place.

There are opportunities here in India. You may need to make an effort in browsing job boards - particularly Naukri, Monster, TimesJobs, JobsAhead. A covering letter explaining the reason for change and the move to India can be mentioned.

Telecom in India is emerging in a significant and respectable manner. The Ministry of Information & Broadcast has issued telecom licenses to three major players. Some of them include TATA (who is entering the race as a GSM player), Reliance (also GSM), Shyam Telecom, and Etisalat.

First of all - Naukri, Monster, and other credible job portals follow a pay-to-use policy. So, any employer who wants to post their job requirements must have paid for their need, and it is a pretty high cost for the same. Therefore, people, employers, or HR would think twice before posting any jobs there - I believe I have clarified whether the jobs posted are genuine.

If you still feel that this may not be a solution to your question, you can note that there is a possibility to contact the company via phone or email. Hence, you can always clarify if the position still exists and expect to receive a follow-up.

All you need to ensure is that you have a good covering letter (specific to the post you are applying for, addressing the recruiter) and mention your contact details correctly. If you are outside India, you can always ask the recruiter for the best time (Indian time) you can reach them to discuss the position. This way, the recruiter also feels that you are genuinely seeking feedback.

Ash Mathew may be correct, but don't believe the job posting blindly. There are a few individuals who cheat by posting fake jobs on job portals. Regardless, you should inquire about the company, visit the company in person, verify its legitimacy, and then decide whether or not to accept the job offer.

Hi guys,

My husband and I returned to India one and a half years ago. I have around 14 years of experience in Operations, and my husband has approximately 20 years of experience in IT. However, to date, we have not been able to find a job. We are still actively searching for a better position. Our earnings abroad were undoubtedly very high, and the positions we held were also very senior. We are now willing to consider mid-level positions with a salary of at least Rs. 35,000/-.

I would advise all NRIs not to blindly return to India and search for jobs. It is crucial to secure a job first before leaving your current one. Make sure to circulate your CV to consultants and friends who can assist you.
