Insights on Written Tests in Interviews: Candidate Evaluation & Selection Criteria

chetnasanwal
Hi,

When a company has the first round as a written test, what do they expect to judge or see in you? Because recently, I sat for TACO, and they shortlisted candidates who scored 12-15 questions correctly out of 20. So, is this a policy of a few companies to take mediocre people too?

Please help me out. I have a few more interviews coming up and don't want to spoil them.

Thanks,
Chetna

Hi Chetna,

As there are many candidates for the interview, there has to be some scale for them to judge as it is not possible for them to conduct interviews for all the candidates. So, to avoid this, a written test is done. Many times, it happens that the right candidate gets overlooked, but nothing can be done about it. The best approach in these interviews is to attempt all the questions, especially because many of the questions are optional. We will see very few descriptive questions.

Thank you.

But the thing that struck me was that the people who attempted more than 16 questions, and are supposed to be the toppers, didn't get through. Only the candidates who attempted 12-15 questions got shortlisted. Is this rule applicable to all companies?

Can anyone tell me what various tests will be conducted for selecting candidates for a company? If possible, please attach the formats.

Hi Praveen,

Companies, especially MNCs, typically conduct 3-4 rounds of interviews, with 5-6 rounds for voice process roles. The interview rounds may include:

1. Aptitude Test
2. Group Discussion (GD)
3. HR round
4. Ops Round
5. Technical round
6. Voice and Accent round (for Voice process roles)

Various tests may be involved, commonly starting with an Aptitude test. This test may cover sections such as General Knowledge, Numerical Ability, Analytical Ability, Logical Reasoning, and Attention to Detail. Occasionally, technical questions related to the candidate's field of study may also be included.

Alternatively, some companies may split the mentioned sections into separate tests with different names like Technical Test, Numerical Test, etc.

Thank you.
