The company can change the notice period anytime but it should be circulated to employees as some amendment is done. But also depends on the strength of the company and most important professionalism of the company.
Please do check your appointment letter carefully, as in some appointment letter, there is a clause which states that company has the right to revise the policy anytime and you will abide by the same.
As per me, you should talk to the HR after reading the appointment letter. Clarify with them and act accordingly.
