A nice and strong employee- and country-centric approach taken by TATA. A very good example for the companies just running a mad rat race for profits, forgetting their duty towards their employees, society, and country. Three cheers to Tata's.

Dear Ajay,

Truly awe-inspiring. The humane approach shown by TATA's towards those affected by the tragedy is unparalleled.

We are proud to be Tataians. I believe that it is important to be a good person first, rather than just focusing on being a professional.

Tata's care towards his employees is exemplary, and I have no words to express my regards for this, with the highlight being the question asked, "Do you think we are doing enough?"

Thanks to Tata, and thank you for sharing such things.

It may have come as a surprise to everyone, but having spent a part of my life in Jamshedpur, I know and have always felt amazed at the Tata philosophy.

One cannot expect anything less from such a great organization!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing. I was part of the Tata Group of companies for over a period of 12 years. Though I have moved on from there, I still have a sense of belongingness towards the Tata Group. The Tata Group stands out for its employee-friendly HR initiatives, transparency in the organization, and strong work ethics.

Thanks for sharing one of the best articles on Cite HR.

Best wishes,

And the most trusted company never advertised it.

Ratan Tata or Ratan of the World (Gem of the World).

Dear Ajay,

Wonderful and thought-provoking. How I wish all our corporates would think like Tata. This should act as an eye-opener for all our organizations, especially for HR professionals like us.

The image created by Tatas over the years is of an employee-friendly organization. Moreover, if you look at the history of Indian labor laws, you would find that many employee-friendly laws stated in the Acts are practiced by Tatas in their companies before being enforced. I have met families in which the third or fourth generation is working in the same company as Tatas, and they are very satisfied. All credit goes to the employee relations measures and policies of the company, rising to the occasion and showing concern for humans by Tatas. Good post & keep posting.

Dear all,

A warm hello and sincere thanks for all the nice words! As mentioned in the article itself, it has been compiled/minuted by Mr. Dileep Ranjekar and not by me. We should all be thankful to him. Yes, all credit goes to TATA for setting such an exemplary initiative - the legacy for which it is always known.

Thanks again and warm regards,

I used to work for TATA Motors many years ago and yet until today I am proud to be associated with the TATA Group. Mr. Ratan Tata is a very fine person - he's principled, he has class, he's a thorough gentleman, and he's a very ethical person. Those who know him will vouch for him! His response to the needs of all those who were affected by the 26/11 attack only shows that, in addition to being an astute businessman, he genuinely cares for all his employees - irrespective of whether they're rich or poor.

Thank you, Ajay, for sharing this information with us!

Direct, collateral, vicarious, social, and humanitarian, as well as all other conceivable liabilities which, in these days, only exist in textbooks and public oratories of our so-called leaders, have also been taken care of by the TATA's. Let their tribe prosper. God bless the TATA's and give full success in all their ventures. The world needs them.

Actually, it's an eye-opener for all those who have conveniently forgotten their social responsibilities in their obsession to amass wealth. These days, we see only ruthlessness and merciless managements and promoters with a single-minded, selfish motive to enrich themselves beyond any remotely reasonable limits, sometimes even at the cost of national security and the well-being of its people.

If we, especially the fortunate among us, share the burden of the less privileged people, most of the ills of the world can be mitigated. For example, TATA's gesture makes all of us feel good. Why? In fact, some of us might have become emotional after reading this article, and that is the power of being good to others.

Factually speaking, governments should be headed by people like Ratan Tata so that resources will not become an issue for such exemplary acts. Most importantly, government coffers are for these purposes only and not for taking care of the security and well-being of corrupt and undeserving politicians and bureaucrats.

After coming to know of such a magnificent gesture, we should not sit quietly. Our conscience should always prick us towards this additional responsibility of ours, not only repeating these acts ourselves, if not literally, at least in spirit, but also ensuring that the social and service responsibilities of elected representatives and governments in place are properly delivered.

Thanks for posting the article.

Everyday appreciation piles up for the TATA's.

But tragedy is that it looks like we want only TATA's to do it and continue to do it for all the days to come because the world needs them.

This is just what happens when we watch a movie where the hero thrashes the villain and we derive pleasure from doing it ourselves.

We are all educated and informed people. Moreover, above-average and opinion-making class holding responsible positions. Let us ask ourselves whether we are true to the unflinching appreciation we are showering on the TATA's. But for one response, which showed interest in emulating the TATA's, all others look like only movie-goers.

I would also like everyone to ponder over what has happened to the perpetrators of this heinous crime on innocent, peace-loving Indians. What has India, or for that matter the world, done to the rogue nation that is behind this inhuman, purposeless violence? Can I say empty rhetoric and spineless inaction by the Indian government, and adding insult to this is spending Rs 36 crores on looking after the captured terrorist! Can I say more assistance to Pakistan, both financial and military, by various countries led by America!

Even the compensation announced by the government to the victims of this attack has not been completely disbursed so far!

This is the precise result of our collective inaction. Whether it is in supporting the wronged fellow Indians or punishing ruthlessly the perpetrators of the crime, we are lagging way behind, giving a clear signal that we are a weak nation and a soft target for such attacks. It is indeed sad.

Hats off to TATAs.........

A compassionate and humane organization to work with, which considers their human resources as assets.

TATA is the epitome of Corporate Social Responsibility. The government should take a cue from them and ensure they spruce up their act.

Hi all HR people,

I am serving notice period in my current organization, and my company has given an appraisal letter just after my resignation which was due for the last 9 months. Since I have already submitted my resignation, they excluded me from the appraisal procedure and are denying to give me my arrears for the last nine months. Is it legal to take away the arrears for that period for which the employee has worked for the organization?

Thanks,
Bani

It's not managing the affairs; it's a clear display of leadership in which Ratan Tata and his family have displayed traits that created the most ardent followers of his family.

It's an example to all the CEOs and leaders about what kind of concern and relationship they should hold with their employees.
