Navigating Salary Sheet Adjustments: How to Handle P.F. Deductions and Challans?

gitanjali
Dear all,

Please help me out. Our company did not have any HR person earlier, and they used to deduct P.F. on basic wages, which were less than 3314/- per month. However, the minimum basic shouldn't be less than 3314/-. Now I have to make revised salary sheets for those months, wherein I have mentioned the minimum basic as 3314/-, but in this case, the cheque amount varies from what was actually paid. We will be paying challans for these months, so please tell me what amount should be mentioned in the challans, as during inspection, it may create a problem if we manipulate the salary sheet because the cheque amount would differ.

Thank you,
Gitanjali

Dear Prabhakaran,

I am working in Delhi, and the minimum basic amount that should be paid is Rs. 3314 per month. However, the company deducts only Rs. 1968 per month for provident fund (P.F.), which is less than the minimum basic amount set by the government. We have not deposited any challans so far.

Should I create new salary sheets with the minimum basic set at Rs. 3314, or should I continue to keep it at Rs. 1968 for P.F. purposes as mentioned in the challans? If I change the basic amount for challan purposes, it may lead to discrepancies between the cheque amounts paid and the salaries transferred to employees who are part of the P.F. and E.S.I. category.
